The Four Seasons of The Year : Best 4 seasons of the year FREE ESL Printables

A season can be defined as one of the four divisions of the year marked by specific kinds of weather.

What Causes the 4 Seasons of the Year ?

As Earth orbits around the sun, it also rotates around its axis. This is an imaginary North-South line. This axis is tilted by 23.4º compared to Earth’s orbit, so that one part of the planet is always closer to or farther away from the sun, the fact that causes seasons to occur.

What are Four Seasons of the Year ? All Seasons in a Year

the year is normally divided into four seasons. The four seasons names in English are:

  1. Spring
  2. Summer
  3. Fall or Autumn
  4. Winter

The letter N at the end of autumn is not pronounced.

Fall is used in American English. It is called fall in the United States because leaves fall from the trees at this particular time.

Autumn is used in British English.

The names of seasons are not capitalized in English unless they come as the first word of a sentence.

When Are the Four Seasons?

Since the year has 12 months, each season lasts about three months. However, the dates when the seasons begin and end change depending on the region/ country where you live. Our planet Earth is divided into hemispheres.

There is the Northern Hemisphere i.e. North of The Equator and the Southern Hemisphere i.e. South of The The Equator.

Seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere.

The beginning of each season marks the end of the last.

Seasonal Changes

Four Seasons

  1. In autumn the weather turns colder and often rains. The leaves start to change colour and fall off the trees.
  2. In winter the weather is cold and we sometimes get snow and frost. The trees have no leaves.
  3. In spring the weather usually turns warmer, trees begin to grow their leaves, plants start to flower and young animals such as chicks and lambs are born.
  4. In summer the weather is usually hot and trees have full green leaves
